Fact: Your Data Requires Backup and Disaster Recovery

Your clients say so. The law says so. And you see how distributing your data centres is beneficial to your business. So why not store your data in the safest, fastest, and most comprehensive data network available today? It's possible with EMC VPLEX and Optical Networking from leading suppliers of Metro DWDM products and it's the best method of data replication technology offered to date.

The Storage Wide Area Network (SAN) Environment

For 20 years the model for data backup has been simple: store the data in one location, back it up or replicate it to another. The technical name is SWAN or Storage Wide Area Networking, and it's widely deployed today. The traditional Disaster Recovery model requires two data centres connected to a fiber optic network; two SAN's one for computing, and one for storage replication. If an emergency takes place at one facility, the second facility will be available to take over. The model looks like this:

vPlex Topology

However, traditional storage replication networking has a few disadvantages:

Superna has a comprehensive service to test this configuration that is widely deployed and proven model for protecting critical data.

EMC VPLEX: Data Replication and virtualization for Tomorrow

It's time to move to a safer, more efficient method of data storage. VPLEX provides the availability of a third or more data centres, allowing for wider (and more secure) geographic dispersal of data, an additional copy of stored information, and the ability to manipulate data across the three locations in real time. VPLEX enabled network topologies are represented in the diagram:

vPlex Topology

There's more to the VPLEX than just adding another storage facility. The VPLEX network allows the computing capabilities of all three data centres to be used simultaneously, resulting in more efficient use of each centre, as well as a higher total output of computing possibilities. Key benefits include:

Superna has a comprehensive set of services to test this configuration and its unique networking challenges. This evolutionary topology for storage replication requires detailed knowledge of how the network impacts critical data protection.

When making a decision on what equipment to purchase

Superna offers the following testing services to address the various Data Centre replication topologies and technologies, focusing on the unique network and data replication solutions enabled by EMC products.

  1. SAN Interoperability service covers EMC SRDF replication solutions as an eLAB pre-qualification test solution to allow vendors to gain EMC matrix publication with a one stop simple turnkey service.
  2. VPLEX Interoperability service covers EMC VPLEX replication solutions as en eLAB pre-qualification qualification test solution to allow vendors to gain EMC matrix publication with a one stop simple turnkey service
  3. Maintenance contract - Blocks of lab time can be purchased to allow vendors to debug any issues found during testing, replicate a customer issue in the lab or execute custom test plans for collateral (white paper, solution briefs). Maintenance contracts include test engineers with storage and Optical networking equipment skills.
  4. Design Consultation Service - This custom service provides access to equipment design consultation based on years of product design experience and vendor Interoperability testing results. If you want the scope on how to build a bullet proof transport solution for storage replication, this service will provide you with expert advice to build a better product.
Note: Typical testing windows are between 15 and 25 business days but can extend longer. Maintenance contracts are available for extended test coverage upon request. All freight and logistics costs into and out of our facility is the vendors responsibility.
