Network Planning Engine
Faster development of complex planning tools for optical and other networks
The Network Planning Engine (NPE) provides advanced optical modeling for integration with existing planning tools. NPE is offered as a standalone Java library, or as a complete web-based planning portal, with workflow and interfaces for both customers and partners.
Advantages:
- Link budget engineering 2.5G, 10G, 40/100G CWDM or DWDM networks
- Per-wavelength power balancing
- DCM (dispersion compensation module) and amplifier placement to optimize OSNR and non-linear effects in complex networks
- Topology awareness allows engineering of complete networks, not just spans
- User authentication, access control and storage of multiple per-network designs
- Customizable to support proprietary algorithms for transmitters and receivers
- Can be used to support other network types, such as RF links and satellite communications
- A single library is responsible for end link budget, amplifier placement, and power balancing in complex networks
NPE can provide a design portal to model diverse networks, including optical and wireless link budget engineering automation, delivered through a Web services portal. NPE can be deployed as an internal tool or as a branded application for licensing or OEM.

NPE includes separate portlets that work together to deliver the following functions:
- Network Engineering and Design Automation Portlet
- Automates link budget, DCM, amplifier, and channel power balancing in spans and networks
- BOM and Pricing Portlet
- Integrates engineering BOM generation and pricing management with a self-service administration tool and email notification system
- Bid Management Portlet
- Improves response to sales opportunities with strategic tracking of dependencies between products, releases, key features, and customer requirements
